The school is known for offering excellent technical training, for having solid sports programmes and also for providing high-quality financial training to students. Students at St. Joseph’s have the opportunity to take on specialized learning programmes that give them career-specific skills and learning opportunities. This programme is known as a Specialist High Skills Major or SHSM and includes focuses in the following areas.
Students that complete one of these specialized programmes will receive specific certificates and a diploma that designates they’ve gone through this specialized training. They can bring their training with them to post-secondary schools, or in some cases straight to a specific job type out in the workforce.
Though St. Joseph’s Catholic High School has a relatively new football programme, the school has managed to be quite successful in football. The St. Joe’s Rams managed to win the TVRAA South-East football championship for five years in a row between 1998 and 2002 and still maintains a competitive team that does quite well each season.
St. Joseph’s also maintains a successful hockey academy for junior and senior students in the school. The program focuses on building individual skills as well as cultivating team tactics and team play understanding. It’s a powerful programme aimed at building more effective hockey players.

St. Joseph’s High School had a modest beginning in 1925 as two-room addition to Holy Angel’s Elementary School. The early school was made up of just two classrooms, a chemistry lab, a boardroom and a library.
Over time the school grew to a much larger size and currently accommodates about 900 students.
In 1929 Father Remi Durand added programmes for boys softball and basketball, forming the St. Joseph’s Saints which began the school’s longstanding tradition of excellence in sporting events.
Over time classrooms were added to the building to try and keep up with growth, but on 1994 a brand-new school was designated as the St. Joseph’s Catholic High School, giving students more space and greater facilities to work with. That’s the building that’s used to house the 900-ish students today.
