Pond Mills is a small area nestled between the neighbourhoods of Glen Cairn to the North and Westminster to the South and West. Pond Mills is bound by Highbury Avenue to the East which feeds into the 401 to the South. The area is named for the northern half of the Westminster Ponds - Pond Mills region, the largest publicly-owned Environmentally Significant Area in the City of London and also a provincially significant wetland.
Pond Mills is an affordable neighbourhood with a good diversity of housing developments. The majority of the detached houses were built in the 70s and 80s and sit in the mid $300,000 range when they do go up for sale. Newer developments include more multiple family dwellings like townhouses, apartment buildings, and condominium complexes. The largest of which, Mills Landing on Deveron Crescent sells units in the low to mid $200,000.
Between nearby Glen Cairns, Westminster, and Old South, residents of Pond Mills are well covered for public and Catholic schools. Elementary options include Glen Cairn Public School, St. Sebastian Catholic School, and Princess Elizabeth Public School and St. Anthony for French Immersion. Secondary students can then carry on to Sir Wilfred Laurier Secondary School, Regina Mundi College, or Mother Teresa for French immersion.
Pond Mills has its own commercial area at the corner of Commissioners Road and Pond Mills Road with shops, restaurants, banks, and even the Pond Mills branch of the public library. All that and more is available a little further West along Commissioners where it meets Wellington Road, or in the White Oaks Mall area.
Being located on an environmentally significant area also means that there is no shortage of natural spaces to enjoy in the Pond Mills area. The Westminster Ponds - Pond Mills Park is an extensive forested area lined with trails and accented by bog-likes areas filled with uncommon flora, amphibians, birds, and insects for keen wildlife spotters.
If you prefer green spaces that are a little less wild, then check out the Southeast Optimist Park. This park features baseball diamonds, basketball courts, a playground and a splash pad, and public washrooms.
