The neighbourhood of Westmount can be found in the Southwestern part of the city of London: between Byron to the West and Highland to the East. The area has a nice balance between commercial convenience and residential privacy. A great cluster of schools, parks, and community areas mark Westmount as a prime family location in London.
Westmount is an iconic South London area with a diverse arrangement of housing and commercial centres. It is separated from Byron by Colonel Talbot Road to the West, bordered by Southdale Road to the South, and Wharcliffe Road to the East. Wonderland Road bisects the neighbourhood, and it continues North across Commissioners into Springbank on the West side of Wonderland. It is one of London’s larger and more spacious neighbourhoods, with a population just shy of 19,000 people.
The Westmount area, originally built in the 1960’s, can be further divided into three, smaller neighbourhoods within its boundaries: Cranbrook, Norton Estates, and Rosecliffe.
Cranbrook makes up most of the area south of Commissioners. It is contained to the area West of Wonderland. The Cranbrook area is a mix of single-family homes, gated communities, and both townhouse-style condos and condominium complexes over 5 stories in height. There is also a wide range in the age of homes in Cranbrook, between those original to the neighbourhood and more recent projects built in the last decade.
Norton Estates is West of Wharncliffe, East of Wonderland. It borders the Highland neighbourhood to the East. A lot of the older homes (70’s) in Westmount can be found in this area and so the average cost of a home is lower here. There is a selection of two-story and bungalow options in Norton Estates, as well as semi-detached, detached, and townhouses.
Rosecliffe is located North of Commissioners and West of Wonderland. This area is among the most expensive in Westmount. Houses here are detached, single family, and generally, have 4 or more bedrooms and 3 or more bathrooms. The newest development, Rosecliffe Terrace is dotted with multi-million dollar homes and former lottery dream homes. The average price for a home in Rosecliffe is over $900,000 for the newer development (2013), but less for some of the older homes.

In the public board, students wishing to pursue a French Immersion education can attend Kensai Park French Immersion Public School for Senior Kindergarten to Grade 8, then head off to Sir Wilfred Laurier Secondary School for Grades 9 to 12. In the Catholic board, students can attend St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary for high school. Catholic French Immersion programs are offered at St. Anthony French Immersion (K-Grade 8) and Mother Teresa Secondary (Grades 9-12).
Homes in Westmount are conveniently located close to the new Bostwick Community Centre. The new centre in South London features an indoor pool, double-pad arena ice rink, a YMCA gym, and a massive branch of the London Public Library. The community centre offers meeting spaces and programs for all ages, making it a fantastic addition to the community.
Westmount Mall is the centerpiece of the Westmount neighbourhood. It was first opened in 1971 with 15 stores. Today, Westmount has a multi-purpose focus, with meeting spaces for community groups, events, offices, and a newly opened Fit 4 Less gym. While the go-to movie theatre in Westmount has undergone some changes, the Cineplex and VIP Cinemas that occupy the spot today offer a special experience for adult guests in addition to their regular theatres. In the VIP section, movie-goers can order appetizers, meals, and drinks to enjoy before, after, and even during the film. The mall is also a terminal point for several London city bus routes: the 7, 10, 15, and 24 all run through the area.
There are more options for shopping at the intersection of Wonderland and Southdale was a massive plaza has been steadily growing. With long strips of stores on all sides of the intersection, the complex is layered with big-name stores, banks, restaurants, cafes, and services. Whatever you need, there is a good chance that between grocery stores, office supplies, furniture, and accessory stores, you will be able to find it in this one-stop, convenient plaza right next to the Westmount area.
