Southcrest London Ontario Real Estate
Southcrest is a neighbourhood in the South of London nearby to the heart of the city. It is Northeast of Westmount, West of the popular Old South area, and South of the Thames River. Active living is at its best here, with Springbank Park, Wortley Village, and Downtown London all within walking distance! Southcrest is a nice compromise between affordable housing and Old London character.
Real Estate
Southcrest is a varied and vibrant neighbourhood in London with some of the most diverse housing in the city. Developed post Second World War and throughout the 60s and 70s, it is currently home to 14,235 people. Within Southcrest, there are a few areas of note: Berkshire Village, Cove Mobile Home Park, and Kensal Park. This is all in addition to high-rise condominiums and townhouses to buy or rent along Springbank Drive and Commissioners Road.
Berkshire Village is a rental development by Sifton Properties on the West side of Southcrest. It features row-style townhouses and maintained landscaping across the entire community. Units are available in 2, 3, and 4 bedroom models with prices ranging from $1,159 to $1,459 per month. All units in the Berkshire community are smoke-free.
Cove Mobile Home Park, also known as “Coves” is a one-of-a-kind area just off of Springbank Drive. It is a retirement community with detached, single-story, mobile houses perfect for prospective residents seeking to downsize. Units in this neighbourhood are in the mid to high $100,000s and are available with two or more bedrooms.
The Kensal Park area is located in the North part of Southcrest. This area has the most direct access to the Thames River, parks, and walkways, as well as a handful of commercial stops along Springbank Drive. Homes in Kensal Park are older, usually detached bungalows. Some newer row-style townhouses can also be found here.
Living in Southcrest
Southcrest is a diverse community with great connections to indoor and outdoor activities alike. Active lifestyles thrive in this area with so many natural walking paths and convenient destinations to walk to. Below are just a handful of the fantastic attractions in and around the neighbourhood.
Schools
Another key benefit of an established neighbourhood like Southcrest is the variety of school options that have been built over the years. Southcrest is home to four schools: Woodland Heights Public School (JK to Grade 8), Kensal Park French Immersion Public School (SK to Grade 8), École Élémentaire Catholique Frère-André (K to Grade 6), and Westminster Secondary School (Grades 9 to 12).
The area is additionally serviced by other schools throughout the City of London. In the Public Board, students can also register for French Immersion at Sir Wilfred Laurier (Grades 9 to 12) or an Emphasis Technology program at Saunders (Grades 9 to 12). In the Catholic Board, students can attend St. Martin (JK to Grade 8), Catholic Central High (Grades 9 to 12), St. Anthony French Immersion (K to Grade 8), and Mother Teresa Secondary (Grades 9 to 12).
The subdivisions of Southcrest are also decorated with parks and other public green space to be enjoyed by the residents. Greenway Park and Off-Leash Dog Park are located right along the Thames River. Others, like Berkshire Park, Kensal Park, and the Southcrest Baseball Diamond can be found deeper into the neighbourhoods.
Further West along Springbank Drive, the forested area by the Thames River becomes Springbank Park. Home to Storybook Gardens, walking trails, sports fields, a skate park, and a splash pad, Springbank Park offers a beautiful sheltered walk along the Thames that eventually leads to Greenway Park and even further right to the downtown core.
Living in Southcrest is handy for shopping as well. Springbank Drive and Commissioners Road are both lined with shopping strips and plazas featuring shops and restaurants. Being within walking distance of downtown London and Wortley Village offers even more shopping and dining opportunities on top of access to the connection hub of most London city buses.
