Summerside is a developing residential neighbourhood in Southeast London. It falls South of Commissioners, between Highbury Avenue and Jackson Road with easy access to the 401. The population of the larger Jackson area tripled between 2001 and 2016, now sitting at just under 5,000 people. The area is new and still growing, but already has great options for schools, services, and community gathering.
Summerside is a relatively new neighbourhood in London. It follows the trend of “building out”, offering seclusion from the heart of the city without sacrificing accessibility. The area itself has plenty of new developments, all carefully planned around new schools, parks, and community gatherings to service the growing population. Since the neighbourhood is less than 20 years old, the majority of homes for sale are either to-be-built, or have been built in the last 10 years.
Much of the recent development in the area is the work of the Ironstone Building Company. They are responsible both for the single family homes and townhouses in the Summerside area. Summerside Trail is their 2019 project in the neighbourhood and it is advertising new house builds starting in the $400,000s. Their townhouse project, called Vibe, is further North in Summerside. Vibe showcases multi-level homes with modern finished for prices starting in the mid $300,000s and going into the low $400,000 range for certain floor plans and features.
Further South, Ritz Homes is working on their own site. Their homes start in the high $400,000, offering single story and two-story options across 11 different floor plans.
Both École Élémentaire Catholique Saint-Jean-De-Brébeuf and École Secondaire Gabriel-Dumont French language schools are located in Summerside. In the Thames Valley District School Board, students are sent to Tweedsmuir Public School for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, then Clarke Road Secondary School for Grades 9 to 12. Students in French Immersion can attend Princess Anne or Louise Arbour Public Schools for Immersion and Extended programs before attending Sir Wilfred Laurier for High School. Students in the Catholic Board attend St. Francis (JK to Grade 8) then Regina Mundi College (9 to 12) for English programs and St. Anthony French Immersion (K to Grade 8) then Mother Teresa Secondary (Grades 9 to 12) for French programs.
Things to do In and Around Summerside
Summerside is close to the 401, Victoria Hospital, White Oaks Mall, and the London International Airport. Its location makes commuting to work, running errands, and planning outings convenient and easy instead of a chore.
Summerside is close to shopping too! Just a few minutes West along Commissioners Road will take you to banks, restaurants, a grocery store, a pharmacy, and the Pond Mills branch of the Public Library. If you are willing to go a little further, shopping in the White Oaks area and White Oaks Mall is only 10 minutes away from Summerside.
Even closer to the neighbourhood is Meadowgate Park. A new neighbourhood means modern, well-maintained parks and Meadowgate is no exception. It has ample parking, large sports fields, a cute playground for the kids, and a brand new splash pad.
